RTE news anchor Bryan Dobson expects to be out of a job in FIVE years time

RTE news presenter Bryan Dobson expects to be out of a job in five years time thanks to the pesky internet.

The Six One host, who has become Ireland’s favourite newsreader after Anne Doyle retired, thinks he’ll no longer be needed by 2020.

The 54-year-old believes that there will be no need for a evening news show by then, as people choose to get all their knowledge online.

He said: “I do wonder whether the particular job I do – sitting down and reading the news every night – whether it will exist in ten, 15 or 20 years’ time.

“And then when I say that, I think maybe it could be five years when it could be gone, because people will just find news in different ways.”

Dobbo added that he has been “taken by surprise” at the speed at which media organisations are going online.

The RTE star was speaking on his first day as a Adjunct Professor in Public Service Broadcasting at the University of Limerick.

Over his three-year contract with UL, Bryan will give lectures and masterclasses to Journalism and New Media students.
