RTE have hit back at claims they’ve dropped a Late Late Show guest

RTE have hit back at claims that GAA star Cathal McCarron was dropped as a guest from the Late Late Show because of a 15-year-old girl’s father’s complaint.

The broadcasting company told Goss.ie that the sports star was never set to appear on the show.

“It is not true to say that The Late Late Show cancelled an appearance by Cathal McCarron on next Friday’s programme,” a spokesperson for RTE said.

Gareth Naughton, press officer for RTE, said that the station does not confirm guests for the show until midway through the week of the broadcast and Cathal was never a confirmed guest.

“The Late Late Show does not finalise and confirm it’s line-up until midway through the week of broadcast,” Gareth Naughton told Goss.ie.

“He was never confirmed as a guest. It is also not true to say that McCarron was cancelled because of the complaint from the 15-year-old’s father.

“The producer of the Late Late contacted the father quoted in the piece to simply say that McCarron would not be appearing, which was merely stating a fact.”
