Ray D'Arcy tipped to take over from Brendan O'Connor as new Saturday Night Show host

Ray D’Arcy is tipped to become new host of the Saturday Night Show when he joins RTE.

The former Today FM presenter – who jumped ship back to RTE at the weekend – is understood to start fronting his own TV show almost as soon as he is back with the broadcaster.

And the 50-year-old, who will begin negotiations for his new role in February, is tipped to take the Saturday Night Show away from Brendan O’Connor.

Taking over? Ray tipped to host show | RTE

“There’s lockdown until the New Year as Ray still technically works for Communicorp but once he gets in and gets settled at Radio there’ll be discussions,” a source told the Mirror.

“It’s no secret Ray loves TV work and he was always a very popular presenter so with the competition from UTV he might be a good fresh face.

“There is a lot of speculation about what show he could front and whether it’ll be the Saturday Night Show but he will be focusing on his radio show first and making it his own before anything else. Then TV discussions will no doubt take place.”

He won’t take over Derek Mooney’s 3pm slot on Radio 1 until February 2.

> Is it €500,000? Ray D’Arcy’s exact salary won’t be released by RTE for THREE years
