Ray D'Arcy 'almost 100% confirmed' to take over Saturday Night Show from Brendan O'Connor

Ray D’Arcy is almost certain to become the new host of the Saturday Night Show when he joins RTE.

The ex-Today FM presenter will be fronting his own show when he starts work at the State broadcaster in the New Year.

RTE sources have revealed they want the 50-year-old to take the Saturday Night Show away from Brendan O’Connor so it can be desperately refreshed.

Taking over? Ray tipped to host show | RTE

Bosses are understood to be planning to bring him into the role from the summer onwards to make the show a talking point once again.

RTE believe that while presenter Brendan O’Connor is doing a good job, it’s time to bring in some fresh blood.

Brendan – who was last year paid €158,400 by RTE – has been hosting it since 2010 when Ryan Tubridy left the slot to become the Late Late Show host.

An RTE spokeswoman told the Mail on Sunday: “It’s too soon to comment on potential TV shows that Ray D’Arcy could be involved in.

“We’re currently looking at various projects but we won’t have any details to announce until later next year. The Saturday Night Show is one of RTE One’s flagship shows and regularly attracts in excess of 400,000 viewers.”

D’Arcy’s is rumoured to be paid around €500,000 to be brought back to RTE. He will be taking over from Derek Mooney’s radio slot on the station.
