Pat Kenny hasn't ruled out a RETURN to RTE in the future

New UTV Ireland star Pat Kenny has revealed he hasn’t ruled out working for RTE in the future.

The TV and radio veteran shocked the nation when he walked out on RTE in 2013 after four decades with the State broadcaster.

And Pat, 66, who has a new daily morning show on Newstalk as well as an upcoming chatshow with UTV Ireland, says he would be happy to go back.

He added: “If I wasn’t contracted to anybody else at the time, I would work there, yeah.

“I parted company with RTE on very good terms. If I meet any of them out, we get along. I am still very good friends with RTE2 controller Bill Malone, nothing has changed.

“Genuinely, there’s no animosity. After 40 years working for them I decided to take a punt on something else.”

And Pat says that he knows his decision has made it possible for lots of change within RTE – and for Ray D’Arcy to come back.

“I realise what a big deal it was when I left RTE and as a result, the Ray D’Arcy move was not as big a shock,” he told the Sunday World.

“I knew my choice would have a radical effect on RTE. When the key element of your mid-morning schedule goes missing, it means a lot of things have to change.”
