No love here! Joe Duffy hits out at Love/Hate: 'I just don't like it'

Presenter Joe Duffy has admitted he’s not a fan of RTE drama Love/Hate..

While the entire nation has been glued to the gang land drama, Joe said he saw real life crime in his childhood, which has put him off the show for good.

“Why do I not like Love/Hate? Because where I grew up in Ballyfermot, it’s very well settled now, but I saw violence, we lived beside a chip shop, I saw fellas being savagely beaten up,” he said.

“I remember one night the guy next door was being whipped on the ground over a small wall with a chain. My mother went out with a sweeping brush trying to get rid of them.

“The gardai asked me to give a statement so I said I would. Then the cops put them (the attackers) into the back of the car beside me

“They said if you tell them it was us we are going to kill you,” Joe recalled.

After the incident Joe gave a full statement and went to court. Speaking to Ryan Tubridy on the Late Late Show Joe said watching Love/Hate is too bleak.

“There’s no love in love/Hate, just hate. The only thing they love is to shoot people.

“I did not like that constant language, the portrayal of working class people,” he explained.

“I also saw a fella shot dead too. There was a guy lying on the ground with a red mark in his temple, he was killed in a gang land hit, it was sheer horror.”
