Love Island’s Scott van-der-Sluis responds to ‘rumours’ surrounding his appearance on US show amid backlash

Love Island’s Scott van-der-Sluis entered the US version of the show last week, which has received a mixed reaction on social media.

The former Shelbourne F.C. goalkeeper appeared on the UK version of the series earlier this summer, but failed to find love in Mallorca.

Just weeks after he wrapped filming the ITV2 show, Scott shocked fans by entering the Love Island USA villa in Fiji.

While fans were excited to see him on our screens again, some weren’t happy about his decision.

The 22-year-old was branded a “game player”, as fans questioned whether he knew about his stint on Love Island USA while he was filming the UK version.

Scott also received backlash from fans who were shipping him and Catherine Agbaje.

The 22-year-old enjoyed a brief romance with Irish contestant Catherine on Love Island UK this summer, and they appeared to reconcile after leaving the villa.

While fans hoped to see them back together, those hopes were dashed when Scott joined Love Island USA as a bombshell last week.

Amid the backlash surrounding his return to Love Island, a spokesperson for Scott has confirmed he was asked to appear on the US version just days after he was dumped from the UK villa.

During a Q&A on Scott’s Instagram, they wrote: “There’s been a lot of rumours circulating, but Scott got asked a few days after leaving the UK villa and had to make a decision within 24 hours so by the time of the re-union it was signed, sealed and all other islanders were aware and supportive of his decision.”

After making his debut on Love Island USA, several of his fellow Islanders took to Instagram to support his decision.

Sammy Root, who won the summer series with Jess Harding, said: “What do I think of Scott in Love Island USA? You’ve got to rate it. He’s working hard.”

Kady McDermott, who questioned Scott’s motives for appearing on Love Island, said: “I wasn’t going to comment on this, but I’m probably getting thousands of messages.”

“Scott actually messaged me the other day, and he was like ‘Kady, I’m doing a you’ and I was like ‘Elaborate… what do you mean you’re doing a me?’ and then obviously he said he’s going on Love Island USA.”

“I was like ‘Scottisha… Scottisha!,’” Kady joked. “Best of Luck to him, and I said that to him like ‘You gotta do what you gotta do’.”

“People say and think what they want about me, but one thing is I never lie. Never lie.”

Meanwhile, Whitney Adebayo said: “We knew that [he was going on Love Island USA]. I love Scott, Scottisha, crazy boy.”
