Louis Walsh: 'The most talented act NEVER wins the X Factor – just the safe one'

Louis Walsh believes X Factor viewers tend to vote for contestants with good personalities – rather than talent.

The Mayo judge feels that previous winners have been the “safe” acts who tend to not cause too much of a stir during the competition.

“I think the people who vote go for the personality rather than the act they think is going to be original and different,” Louis said.

“It’s the ‘safe’ acts on the show that get the really good votes and that’s why Sam Bailey won last year.”

The TV star also revealed that everyone the X Factor have had to “pull up [their] socks” for Simon Cowells’s return to the show.

“When Simon came back we all had to pull up our socks because he wanted the show to be better, both musically and production-wise, so there’s no where to hide,” Louis told the Sunday World.

“I think this year has been better, musically, than any other year. Simon has brought in American producers and he has an amazing team behind him.”

Top notch: Simon has brought in One Direction’s producers to make show a hit

“He wants every song to sound like it’s a record. The guys that make all the One Direction records make the tracks for the show.”

Louis also revealed Simon has brought in top producers for the series so that it can make an impact on the world stage.

“People don’t realise that the UK X Factor is shown around the world in places like America, Canada, South America, Asia. Simon wants it to be of the highest standard so that it can travel.”
