Keith Duffy will 'definitely' be returning to Coronation Street – and is in touch with bosses about his comeback

Boyzone star Keith Duffy has confirmed he will be returning to Coronation Street.

The Dublin actor, 40, said he is still in touch with producers of the ITV show, who have told him he will be making a comeback as Ciaran McCarthy.

He added: “I do keep in touch with people in Manchester. I worked there on and off for about 10 years when I was on Coronation Street.

“I don’t get to watch much of it and the only reason I’m aware if it’s good or bad is if people stop me in the street and say that ‘Coronation Street is awful’.

“To be honest, I will return to it but I’m not sure when and I don’t know for how long but I reckon Ciaran McCarthy will definitely walk down the cobbles again.”

However Keith feels things would have gone the other way in Love/Hate – and that producers wanted to kill him off.

He played personal trainer turned drug dealer Mark in the hit gangland drama but his character didn’t return for the fifth season.

He said: “I think they’d probably have liked to shoot me the last time I was in Love/Hate but they didn’t so who knows what will happen”.

Meanwhile Keith told Newstalk he is being kept busy working on the Boyzone Motown album.

He said: “It’s an album of cover versions, it’s all our favourite Motown songs, and we had a great time dressing up Motown style and doing some Motown dance moves.

“It gives us an opportunity to hang out together, we enjoy being together and we have a die-hard fan base who love to see us and feel young again.”
