Great British Bake Off consider axing ‘fan’s favourite week’ following unexpected problem

Great British Bake Off has considered axing their “fan’s favourite week” following an unexpected problem.

The Channel 4 team have reportedly been sent into a frenzy as they may be forced to skip the highly anticipated Chocolate Week on the show.

An unforeseen rise in cocoa prices across the globe this year may put the much-loved week out of the network’s budget.

The price of cocoa has doubled since early 2024 due to rising temperatures and weather conditions that have damaged crops in Africa.

A source told the The Sun: “Producers are fairly confident they’ll be able to get their hands on enough cocoa and choccy products for the series. It’s more about tone and continuity.”

“If there really is a dire lack of chocolate by the time this series airs, it’ll seem a bit out-of-sorts to be displaying gooey, chocolatey wares.”

“Bosses know that fans like to try and recreate recipes after they have aired too, which could be a problem if the shortage remains.”

“Of course the poor harvests will be having a very real, devastating impact on the farmers who rely on their cocoa crops as their livelihood, so that’s an important consideration too.”

Themed weeks have been cancelled before on the show, the international challenges were axed last year following backlash.

The baking show hosted by Noel Fielding and Alison Hammond, with judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith will commence filming in April.
