Graham Norton: 'I can't host BAFTAs unless I down wine'

Graham Norton has revealed he’ll be boozing in a bid to calm his nerves while hosting the BAFTAs.

The BBC presenter – who is from Bandon, in Co Cork – admits he will be stashing a number of bottles of wine backstage.

He said: “I use wine. I always have wine, though I don’t bring it on stage with me – normally because there is nowhere to put it.

“But, if you are there on the night, you do see me disappear quite a lot, and that is when I am going to my emergency wine station.”

But Graham revealed he won’t be staying late after the show on Sunday.

Early leaver: Graham won’t be heading to after party for long

“I tend to leave quite early because I have been drinking since the beginning,” he said.

“For me, it is a long day, so by the time you get to the party you are normally like, ‘ugh,’ and want to go home.”

The TV host – who earned nearly €2.8million last year – has his own brand of wine in New Zealand.

Recently the Kiwi company, Invivo, bought grapes from their vineyard to the BBC studios for him to crush for the batch which will profit Elton John’s Aids charity.
