First Radio 1 – now Ray D'Arcy to host new late night chat show on RTE

Ray D’Arcy has been tipped to have his own prime time chat show on RTE.

The news comes after Ray signed a €500,000 deal to leave Today FM and return to the station that made him a star.

The radio presenter made the move in a bid to land higher-profile TV roles and will be taking over Derek Mooney’s afternoon slot on RTE.

“Ray really wants a prime time Saturday night slot – that’s what many believe the RTE deal is about.

“Ray is an experienced broadcaster and a shrewd observer of the Irish radio and TV market and he obviously wants a high-profile role” a source told The Star.

“He obviously wants to put his own stamp on his own chat show on he national broadcaster because he’s in his prime in TV industry terms.”

The 50-year-old broadcaster hopes to bring a new and fresh outlook to the TV world.

“It’s increasingly difficult to get something fresh on air because everybody’s plugging something and people aren’t fascinated or bemused by television as they used to be.”

A spokeswoman from RTE said “It’s too soon to comment on potential TV series that Ray D’Arcy could be involved in.

“We’re currently looking at various projects but we won’t have news on this until later next year.”
