Fair City ‘making too much money for RTÉ to outsource it’

Fair City is making too much money for RTÉ to outsource it, according to actress Aoibheann McCaul.

After the station caused uproar by deciding to outsource young people’s programming, many speculated that Fair City would be next – but this isn’t the case.

Aoibheann, who plays Caoimhe in the long-running show, has denied that Fair City will be outsourced – because it’s raking too much cash.

“I wasn’t worried in the slightest. It was complete speculation with the young people’s thing, so I wasn’t worried. Fair City is doing really well and it’s bringing money in so I can’t understand why you would outsource it,” she told the Herald.

Meanwhile, the Malahide native revealed that she was sad when she heard the news about RTÉ planning to outsource children’s programming.

“It’s very sad, and I’m not really sure what’s going to happen. The young people’s department was always fab. I actually started off there, I was on a show with Dustin the Turkey.

“It just depends what happens now. Do the same shows start up outside? I wouldn’t like to see any of the hard-working presenters lose their jobs, but I don’t know how it’s going to work,” she added.
