Ex-Republic of Telly host Dermot Whelan returns to RTE with Irish version of Never Mind The Buzzcocks

Ex-Republic of Telly presenter Dermot Whelan is making his TV return – hosting an Irish version of Never Mind The Buzzcocks.

The Today FM presenter quit the popular sketch show, which also stars Jennifer Maguire, in 2013.

But now the 41-year-old is back with a new programme – Hey Ho, Let’s Go – which is a mix of comedy and music.

RTE will be showing the first episode of the series, which he developed himself, over Christmas before a full run next year.

He told the Mail on Sunday that it is “a cross between Never Mind The Buzzcocks and Who’s Line Is It Anyway meets Blankety Blank”.

It marks his first return to RTE television after three years presenting Republic of Telly.

He quit over Twitter, remarking there is “only a certain amount of ways to say Fair City is terrible”.

At the time Dermot said he was “taking a break so I can be at home with my kids. I have three and wanted to spend some more time with them.”

Dermot, along with Dave Whelan, presents a mid-morning show on Today FM after moving over from 98FM.
