Eurosong contestant Nikki Kavanagh: 'Losing to Jedward pushed me to give Eurovision another shot'

Eurosong contestant Nikki Kavanagh has revealed losing out to Jedward for Eurovision glory made her want to give the competition another shot.

The three time hopeful was part of the Eurosong team headed by Niamh Kavanagh in 2010 and lost out again to the X Factor stars in the 2011 competition.

Nikki told Goss.ie that this is her last chance to achieve her dreams of representing Ireland on the international stage.

“Well you have to come back after that don’t you? You can’t just be remembered as the one that lost to Jedward,” she said.

“This will be the last one now, I wouldn’t do it again. I think you could start to look a bit tragic after that,” she told Goss.ie.

“I’m just gonna do my best and hope for the best and if not, I’ll be glued to the couch,” she added.

Meanwhile, Nikki has revealed Eurosong haters like Johnny Logan need to “suck it up” and accept the competition is going nowhere.

The Hold Me Now singer recently slammed the contest, claiming it looks “cheap” on The Late Late Show and should be scrapped.

“I don’t see it moving off the Late Late anytime soon, I think people are just going to have to suck it up for now,” Nikki told Goss.ie.

“There’s a lot of people whinging about that. I think if The Late Late Show had a problem with that they would just take it off.”

“It doesn’t bother me either way. It seems to me a lot of the Eurovision fans want it to be on its own, kind of like You’re A Star.”

“It would be nice to have something like that except this time you could actually have singers that can sing and not Joe down the road or Mary from the shop,” she added.
