Eoghan McDermott knows The Voice of Ireland winners have mostly been failures – and NEED to improve

The Voice of Ireland host Eoghan McDermott has admitted that the show’s winners have mostly been failures so far.

The RTE series is set to kick off its fourth season in coming months – following on from the wins of Pat Byrne, Keith Hanley and Brendan McCahey.

But Eoghan – who hosts along with Kathryn – wishes that they had “set the world on fire” a bit more.

So far none of them have got a number one single, and Keith recently lost his record contract after his releases all tanked.

He said: “I suppose loads of people think the winners haven’t done huge business so far, and I suppose they haven’t set the world on fire.”

He added: “It’s an amazing television show, but obviously you really want somebody to do something at the end of it and be successful.”

However the 31-year-old feels things could now change with new judges Una Foden and Rachel Stevens.

He said: “I know Una very well, so that’ll be a good laugh – she’ll be great, and she’s been on the show twice before. But Rachel Stevens was an absolute curveball, it’s amazing.”

It comes as Eoghan is taking to the dance floor for Strictly Against Breast Cancer – but isn’t planning too much practice.

“I’ve never done any partner dancing, but after I did my degree in UCD I moved to New York where I was in a dance college,” he said.

“Rehearsals are the opposite of intense – it’s only about half-an-hour a week. Caroline Flack is doing Strictly Come Dancing in the UK at the moment.

“And she was saying that they’re training for seven hours a day, so it’s definitely not on that scale.”
