Emmett Scanlan lands new US role – playing Saul in big-budget biblical drama

TV star Emmett Scanlan has landed a major new role in America – joining a new big-budget biblical drama.

The former Hollyoaks actor has signed up for NBC’s miniseries AD, where he will play the role of Saul.

It is being produced as a sequel to the History channel’s miniseries The Bible – with the star over the moon at the casting.

He said: “Being part of AD on NBC, playing the iconic Saul is why I do this. Chances like these are rare.”

Saul was the first king of a united Kingdom of Israel, who is aggressive and unrelenting in his beliefs.

It comes after Scanlan was previously confirmed to play Jim Corrigan in NBC’s Constantine.

AD is currently being filmed in Morocco, and will be screened across 12 episodes from April 5 next year, showing the aftermath of Jesus Christ’s crucifixion.

Scanlan will be seen this weekend in The Fall, when he reprised his role as DC Glen Martin in the RTE series.
