Dublin singer hoping to win The Voice of Ireland – after being viciously attacked

Dublin hopeful Kayleigh Cullinan has her heart set on winning The Voice of Ireland – years after being almost blinded in a horrible attack.

The Kimmage native turned to music after being viciously attacked in 2010 by bullies, and now the songstress wants to win the RTE talent competition.

“I’ve had 10 surgeries to try and correct my retina and keep any sight in my right eye but I only have 5% vision,” Kayleigh admitted.

“It’s unfortunate but it could have been even more awful… found my love of singing because of what
happened to me.

“I couldn’t sing before the attack and when I was recovering I kind of went into a state of isolation and didn’t want to be around anyone.

Kayleigh isn’t new to the world of showbiz, as she previously sang on a cruise ship with X Factor star Mary Byrne, and even entered the X Factor herself.

Now Kayleigh, 19, is hoping to impress The Voice of Ireland coaches Bressie, Una Foden, Kian Egan and Rachel Stevens.

“I prayed for dear life before going on stage. Of course I get nervous doing gigs with Mary or at other events, but I’ve never had such nerves in my life,” she told the Herald.

“I was just hoping I’d do well and I kept thinking, ‘Please just let one of them turn around’.
