Dragons' Den could be axed as bosses struggle to find new sponsor for business show

Dragons’ Den may not be coming back to RTE – after the main sponsor has pulled out of the series.

TV bosses are searching for a new company to jump in after Bank of Ireland pulled the plug after six years backing the show.

Sources have told the Star it is now “unlikely” that Dragons’ Den will be back in March as they struggle to find a new sponsor.

Instead, it is expected that the show’s remaining lineup of Ramona Nicholas, Peter Casey and Gavin Duffy may be back to their day jobs.

Applications or hopeful entrepreneurs usually open in November although details for next year’s show have yet to be announced.

A spokesperson for programme makers ShinaWiL, who have produced the show for the last six years, said boss Larry Bass “is currently in talks with sponsors”.

RTE said it was “working with the producers to bring Dragons’ Den back to RTE1 in 2015.”

Recently, ShinaWiL also saw another one of their big shows – MasterChef – put on ice after being unable to find a new sponsor.
