Derry Girls creator Lisa McGee announces brand new TV show

Lisa McGee has announced a brand new TV show.

The eight-part series, titled How to Get to Heaven From Belfast, will follow longtime pals Saoirse, Robyn and Dara, who are now in their late 30s.

According to Variety, Saoirse is a writer who has a “compulsion to hit the self-destruct button”,” and Robyn is described as a “sweary, stressed-out” mother of three.

Meanwhile, Dara is the carer of her elderly parents, who has yet to move out of her childhood bedroom.

The description reads: “When the women each receive an email informing them of the death of Greta, an old classmate they were once very close with, there’s clearly some unspoken, unfinished business.”

“The friends decide to attend Greta’s wake and discover all may not be quite as it seems. They soon find themselves embroiled in a dark and twisted mystery. It’s absolutely terrifying. But it’s also… utterly thrilling.”

Lisa wrote fan-favourite TV series Derry Girls

Sharing the news via Twitter, Lisa joked: “There is a character from Derry in it before I get banned from the old hometown #HTGTHFB.”

Lisa’s work has been nominated for IFTAs, BAFTAs and Royal TV Society Awards.

The Derry Girls writer also created Raw for RTÉ, and The Deceived for Virgin Media Television.
