Coronation Street star quits after two years

This Coronation Street star has quit the show after two years.

Ciaran Griffiths, who plays the character Damon Hay on the show has decided to leave his role.

The actor’s scenes in Friday’s episode marked his final moments on the Cobbled streets, as he is not set to return.

In dramatic scenes this week, viewers watched Damon as he was arrested for armed robbery after being blackmailed into it by his brother Harvey Gaskell.

While his character had the option to turn on his brother and continue living with his girlfriend Sarah Platt however, he chose to plead guilty.

Damon’s decision to accept the years in prison with his brother as he knew he and Sarah would never be safe on the outside.

The brothers had a vicious fight but reunited with plans to relaunch their criminal empire behind bars.

Damon also asked Sarah (Tina O’Brien) to visit him in prison and continued to break up with her.

As Sarah promised to wait for him on the outside, the convict dropped a bombshell.

He confessed: “I don’t want you to do that because I asked you here to tell you to your face, we’re finished.”

“I’m doing you a massive favour. You turned my world upside down but if I loved you, properly loved you, I wouldn’t have done the stuff I’ve done.”

“You’ve got to walk away. I’m sorry, it’s my decision. Goodbye Sarah.”
