Bressie vows he won't just walk away from Limerick teens he's mentored on new RTE show

Bressie has vowed he won’t just walk away from the Limerick teens he’s mentored on his new show.

The Voice of Ireland coach has vowed he hasn’t just got involved with Teenage Kicks to boost his TV profile.

Instead Bressie told Goss.ie that he will keep in touch with the teens, who he helped make into a band.

He said: “I think the big thing was the aftercare. I didn’t just wanna make a documentary and then go ‘thanks a million for your time lads, see you soon’ and then walk away.

“I had to leave them with something very real and practical and tangible and we have. They’ve created their own record label that they’re gonna run themselves. It’s up to them now to build it.

“We made a three song EP to start and then they will release it on this label. Then they can decide if they wanna record more.”

And the former Blizzards star said that he especially wanted to choose Limerick because it was always seen in a “negative” light.

He added: “I’ve played professional rugby down there. It was always a city that I felt was really not explored enough and everything we heard about it was so negative because the media.

“They picked on a city even though there’s bigger problems in other cities around Ireland.

“So I wanted to explore that and show that that’s not really what it’s like at all and show that it’s an unfair representation of an amazing city that I’ve always loved being in.”

But Bressie – whose show starts on RTE2 tonight – admits it wasn’t an easy show from the start.

He added: “It was hard because you have to realise they have stuff going on outside of what we were doing.

“It was hard for me because there was a lot I wanted to achieve in a very short space of time so there was a lot of pressure on me to do that. It was very intense.”
