Blathnaid Ni Chofaigh fears she keeps losing out on new TV roles because she's too old at 44

RTE star Blathnaid Ni Chofaigh fears she keeps losing out on getting TV shows because she’s too old.

The TV presenter recently turned 44 – but worries she doesn’t look good enough to be trusted with her own shows.

Asked how she feels when TV projects don’t happen, she said: “Sometimes I wonder, ‘Is it ‘cos I look old?’ That comes into my head.

“That seeps in. When you get to, ‘This is what I do, I know I am good at this, that’s a really good programme idea,’ and it just doesn’t happen, the lowest feeling is that I don’t look very good.

“The vulnerable girl in me comes back. It’s a very lonely profession because you can’t really talk to many people about it. You just can’t.

“It’s also your bread and butter and you’re mindful of that. The strain on a TV presenter, the strain of the next gig never goes away. It will be with you ’til you die.”

And Blathnaid told the RTE Guide she has even considered having some work done – although hasn’t had any cosmetic surgery yet.

She added: “Oh God, yes – that jowly neck. It breaks my heart every time I see it. My only fear would be keeping it up. It is scary.”
