Aoibhinn Ni Shuilleabhain: 'I'm going to HATE watching travel show Getaways, now I'm not in it'

Aoibhinn Ní Shúilleabháin has admitted she will find it difficult watching Getaways when the RTE travel show returns.

The TV presenter gave up the lead presenting role to focus on finishing her PHD, and now Angela Scanlon will host the show.

Aoibhinn told Goss.ie she has missed travelling around the world.

“Of course I miss it. I’m going to hate watching it because I’ll be thinking ‘I should have been there’,” she said.

“But I just couldn’t keep juggling it. I’m still in touch with Joe and the lads and the whole crew.”

Speaking at the unveiling of the P&G Effect Campaign Aoibhinn said she was sad to leave the show.

“I really missed them this summer, I really did. But I just couldn’t have done it and I wouldn’t have been able to finish my PHD within the three years.”

“I really wanted to hand in the PHD on time, that was a little goal I had so I had to make that decision,” she said.

Aoibhinn, who lives with Late Late Show host Ryan Tubridy will be back on our screens this year for RTE show Science Squad.

Meanwhile the presenter has landed a job as a lecturer in UCD.

“I’m in two weeks, I’m lovely UCD. It’s a brand new way to train teachers and I love that,” she said.

“I handed in my PHD on a Friday and I started my new job on the Monday so I haven’t really had time to relax.”
