Aoibhinn McGinnity: 'I don't know if I want to return to Love/Hate after they killed my Nidge'

Love/Hate’s Aoibhinn McGinnity doesn’t know if she wants to return to the show after her on-screen husband was killed off.

The TV actress has refused to commit to returning to the RTE series after the shock death of Nidge at the hands of Patrick.

Asked if she wants to come back, Aoibhinn said: “That depends on what’s in store. I don’t know.” She added: “I really don’t know what’s gonna happen.”

RTE have confirmed that Love/Hate will be back in 2016, but it may be a spin-off after the shock ending of the last season.

Speaking about shooting the last moments where she watched as Tom Vaughan Lawlor – who plays Nidge – was gunned down, Aoibhinn admits it was hugely emotional.

She said: “There was a huge emotional attachment to reading those last few scenes. because of the nature of them, obviously.

“And it was crazy to shoot that – it wasn’t very difficult for me to go into shock mode.”

And Aoibhinn told the Herald that she ended up having to watch the final episode through Skype from the UK.

She added: “I couldn’t get it and it was driving me mad. I knew what happened obviously, but I hadn’t seen it.

“But I kind of got a bit of a sense of the sound through Skyping my parents, and they had it on, so it was the worst sort of picture in the world!”

However Aoibhinn – who will soon be playing the female lead in Elf The Musical – says is shocked at how popular Love/Hate has become.

Not sure: Aoibhinn doesn’t know if she will return | RTE

She added: “I think being away from it as well kind of highlights it. I was in Spain for one of the episodes, and I thought, ‘No way, we’re not going to get to watch it here’.

“And it was on in an Irish pub! And the whole pub stayed quiet for it. So there’s no point in saying we knew in the beginning because it is good and the script’s great, but to go that far it’s very hard to predict something like that.”
