Poldark hunk Aidan Turner has revealed he’d never been to the theatre before he went to drama school.

The screen star admitted he had no idea what he wanted to do until he walked past a Dublin theatre school and decided to give it a go.

“I’d never been to a theatre in my life before I went to theatre school, I’d never seen a play,” he said.

“So I don’t know, it’s very odd. It just all happened,

“My dad’s an electrician and my mum’s an accountant, so you know, fairly humble,” he admitted to Stuff.co.nz.

“They’re not casting directors or anything, unfortunately.”

Meanwhile, the Dublin native revealed he hadn’t read Winston Graham’s novels before he took the role of Poldark – adding he’s purposely avoided the 1970’s series so he wouldn’t his copy his portrayal of Ross.

“It was one of those things that once you know something you can’t really un-know it,” he smiled.

“I was afraid that I would be plagiarising as opposed to coming up with something myself.”

Despite the original show being so iconic, the handsome star admitted he didn’t feel under pressure to live up to his predecessor.

“It’s good pressure. People care about the show and Winston’s writing and they’re trying to preserve that. It makes you want to do something decent with it,” he said honestly.
