Miss Ireland contestant reveals she's delighted bikini round is axed

A new Miss Ireland contestant has revealed she is delighted the bikini round is gone but admitted she wouldn’t rule out stripping off for Playboy.

Newly crowned Miss Buck Whaleys, Michaela O’Neill revealed she is happy the bikini section has been axed.

“I think it’s great because this is the first year that there’s no bikini round,” she told Goss.ie.

“That was brought in by Miss World so this is the first year it’s being implemented so I don’t have to worry about any of that,” she said.

Although pleased about the change in the format, the Dublin beauty wouldn’t rule out posing popular lads mag Playboy like former Miss Ireland and Miss World Rosanna Davison.

“I suppose I’d have to wait and see if the opportunity came up because that’s kind of a decision for everyone to make on their own behalf but at the moment I don’t think it would be for me.

“That’s not to say in the future or if I did win and the opportunity came up that I would say no but I think I would have to wait and see for that to come up before I could say anything about it,” she added.

The blonde beauty wants to focus on Miss Ireland for now and feels axing the swimwear is the best decision.

“There is definitely no pressure to have to do anything like that and I think it’s a great decision on behalf of Miss World and Miss Ireland because I don’t think there is any need for it in the competition itself,” she said.

But the college student admitted that she would consider lingerie shoots post competition.

“Obviously in the fashion industry, the modelling world, of course you might have to do things like that but for the moment I’m just going to focus on the competition,” she explained.

“And maybe not do anything like that for the moment, like no bikini or lingerie but you know afterwards if my career took off a little bit more maybe then I would have to consider things like that ,” she told Goss.ie

Last year Miss Buck Whaleys Jessica Hayes was crowned Miss Ireland, and now Michaela is hoping for a the same success.
