Lisa Madden reveals fellow Miss Universe contestants forced themselves to stop eating

Lisa Madden has revealed some of the shocking lengths the Miss Universe contestants went to to stay skinny during the gruelling beauty pageant.

The Miss Universe Ireland contestant divulged that while pageant officials made sure the girls attended breakfast, lunch and dinner everyday, some contestants had undergone extreme procedures to ensure they wouldn’t gain any weight.

“Some girls have gauze sowed to the palette of their mouth so it would make eating solid food difficult so they could only have soups, juices or soft fruit,” she said.

While the Cork native insisted she would never go to the same lengths, she explained that she was not under the same level of pressure as some of the other girls were.

“The thing is as well, we don’t understand but pageants are huge in their countries and they’re like gods at home, so they’re under ferocious pressure at home.”

The dentistry student also opened up about coming under fire from online bullies who said she had a “uni-brow” and the 21-year-old even had items stolen from her by some of the other pageant contestants in Miami.

“I did hear a few comments that would get to me and it took me a while but you just have to try and get on with it and understand not everyone will like what I’m doing. It definitely does make me stronger,” she said.
