WATCH: ‘Proud Irishman’ Cillian Murphy offers to sing a ‘rebel song’ after winning BAFTA award

Cillian Murphy offered to sing a “rebel song” after winning a BAFTA for his role in Oppenheimer on Sunday night.

At the post-awards press conference, the Cork native gushed about his home country, and said he was a “really proud Irishman”.

Cillian said he was “thrilled and a little shocked” over his win, before a reporter asked if he wanted to say hello to anyone back home in Cork.

Cillian replied: “Hi to them all! Hi to everyone.”

“I’m a really proud Irishman – I have to say that! Of course I am. It means a lot to me to be Irish…”

“I don’t know what else to say – shall I sing a rebel song?” he laughed.

Oppenheimer won a total of seven awards at the BAFTAs on Sunday night.

Cillian’s only other BAFTA film nomination was in 2007, when he was nominated in the Rising Star category.

He also previously received a TV BAFTA nomination for playing Tommy Shelby in Peaky Blinders.
