Voice of Ireland winner Patrick James: 'I'm going to go back to DUNNES after my single comes out'

Voice of Ireland winner Patrick James has revealed that he’s planning on returning to Dunnes after he’s finished promoting his debut single.

The Dublin native who changed his name from Patrick Donoghue won the 2015 series of the singing competition and plans to return to his old job after his first single Redemption Days is released.

“I’m still there but I haven’t been back. They’ve been very good, they’ve given me time off to work on the single. I’ve got a lot of promo coming up so I’ll go back after the promo,” he said.

Speaking to Kathryn Thomas on The Ray D’Arcy Show on Radio 1, Patrick also discussed his teen years when he audition for The X Factor.

“I went for the X Factor in 2007 and got to bootcamp. It was a great experience but really, really hard,” he admitted.

“Total different experience than The Voice, I’m not slating the x factor, it’s a much bigger show. But when I went to The Voice, they treat you like a human being but the x factor is a bit more: ‘you’re a product'”.

Meanwhile, Patrick revealed he hopes to break the trend of previous Voice Of Ireland winners by being the first to have a successful album.

“All the other winners of The Voice of Ireland, they all have careers in music. They all sing for a living now. That is any singers dream,” he said.

“I want to be a recording artist and I want to be a successful recording artist.”

“I broke the boundary of being the first Dublin winner so hopefully I can break the boundary of this. I haven’t worked on the album just yet, if the single does well then it’s on to the album.”
