This track was voted the most popular Christmas song in Ireland

It’s officially the 1st of December, meaning we can finally start blaring Christmas songs and not feel bad about it.

In an annual tradition, 2FM’s Larry Gogan played the first Christmas track on the station, joining the Breakfast Republic team.

People all over Ireland were allowed to request their favourite song, with the top track getting the first play.

Larry, who has been playing the first Christmas song on RTE since the 1980s said Mariah Carey’s All I Want For Christmas was a close second, but it was The Pogues Fairytale of New York that won out.

Just minutes earlier SPIN 103.8 also played their first Christmas track, leaving voting open on their official Facebook page.

Fully Charged also played Fairytale of New York – meaning it truly is Ireland’s favourite festive tune.
