Tommy Tiernan offends residents by dressing as priest in Mayo graveyard

Tommy Tiernan was spotted dressed as a priest in a Mayo graveyard, and residents are really not happy.

The comedian was filming an episode of RTE’s Hardy Bucks in Toomore cemetery in Foxford, Co Mayo, with a fake coffin beside him.

Horrified locals immediately got in touch with Foxford parish priest Fr Padraig Costello to voice their anger at the invasion.

But Fr Costello told massgoers on Saturday that the filming was out of his hands as the church doesn’t control who can take over the graveyard.

In fact, Mayo had granted the Hardy Bucks the right to film in the cemetery.

However, local Fine Gael councillor Neil Cruise said he questioned the crew’s permission to use the cemetery to the extent they did.

He said, “I will be making further enquiries on this,” and he also said the filming caused great distress for those who have loved ones buried in Toomore and wasn’t appropriate.

A spokesperson for RTE said, “The production company had a conversation with a representative from Toomore graveyard committee who advised that to film in the graveyard they needed to contact Mayo County Council.

“The production company took this guidance and contacted the council who granted them permission to film the scenes.”
