Comedian Tommy Tiernan feared his career was completely over after the hate-filled reaction to his RTE documentary.
The Meath funnyman was hit with a savage backlash after the series – which charted his European tour – was screened last month.
And Tommy, who improvised from start to finish across the 12 day tour, said he was “upset and worried” from the reaction to Tommy: To Tell You The Truth.
Worried: Tommy feared he was done after documentary
“I was confused, upset and worried about the reaction to the documentary. I thought it wasn’t as good or bad as they made out,” he told the Mirror.
“Some of the reaction was very personally critical. It seemed a little bit vitriolic but some of the praise seemed to be a little bit messianic. There was no meeting ground.”
Now Tommy is releasing a new DVD – Stray Sod, which is out on November 21.
He added: “That show is a culmination of two or three years touring. All the stories are about Ireland and Irish people.”
