Forget about Obama and Tom Cruise…Nicole Kidman us the latest Hollywood star to trace her roots back to Ireland.
According to research into the Australian actress’ family – her great-great-great-great-grandfather, Hugh Masterson, was baptised in Grandard, Co Longford in 1791.
The movie star’s family tree was published in genealogy magazine Irish Lives Remembered and shows Hugh’s daughter Mary Bridget Masterson then married James Callachor and moved to Australia between 1838 and 1842.

The flame-haired actress isn’t the first famous name to retrace her Irish heritage as her former husband Tom Cruise is said to be Ryan Tubridy’s cousin.
The RTE star’s family tree states that the broadcaster’s grand-aunt on his father’s side, Temperance Ayde Curran, married a William Cruise – a possible cousin of the Mission Impossible actor.
Meanwhile, the President of the United States, Barack Obama, ancestry’s links his family to Moneygall, Co Offaly.
On his monumental trip to Ireland in 2011, the politician enjoyed a pint of Guinness in his cousin’s pub to celebrate his roots.
