Simon Cowell has opened up about meeting with Westlife, before they announced their big reunion.

The famous boyband finally announced their much-anticipated reunion in October, but many were left wondering why Westlife hadn’t signed with Simon’s record label Syco.

At the time, rumours were rife that Simon was only interested in their reunion if former member Brian McFadden was involved.

However, the music mogul has since explained that he actually turned down the reunion because the timing didn’t allow him to make a documentary charting their comeback.

Simon told The Sun, “They came to the house, had a fantastic meeting. But the deal wasn’t a great deal because the truth is they’re going to make a ton of money on ticket sales.”

“I would have preferred to have done the deal with a documentary first. The timing didn’t work so I said to Louis, ‘I can’t make the numbers work just on records’ – and that was it.”

At their press conference last month, band member Nicky Byrne slammed reports that Simon wanted Brian to be a part of their reunion tour.

He said, “To put Brian back into the band, it would be strange for us to have to adapt to that. The stories and the rumours about Simon Cowell offering tours with Brian, it’s just simply not true.”

“100% untrue, that never happened. We did meet Simon Cowell and it was one of those things where we discussed the band as a four-piece, it was never with Brian,” he added.

The foursome are set to embark on their first tour since 2012 next summer, kicking off in Belfast’s SSE Arena on 22nd May, and ending in Croke Park on July 6th.
