Saoirse Ronan lands her first Vogue cover

This is a huge deal for the Irish actress

Saoirse Ronan has landed her first cover of US Vogue.

The 24-year-old was photographed by Jamie Hawkesworth for the cover, and styled in Prada’s AW18 collection.

Few Irish women have graced the front cover of Vogue, making Saoirse’s shoot particularly special.

But despite this, the Oscar nominee still doesn’t feel “famous”.

She told US Vogue, “I still get completely shocked that anyone knows who I am. But I’m not… famous. I just genuinely don’t think I am. Selena Gomez is famous.”

While Saoirse spends a lot of time in the US and UK, she will always consider Ireland her home, having bought a €1m home in Wicklow last year.

“Ireland is smaller than England, and I love it for that,” she said.

“I feel most at home and at peace when I’m in the country. Though I like being in London too. There’s an anonymity. You can disappear into the human flow.”

Touching on the #MeToo movement, Saoirse has never been subject to harassment or abuse on set – but did recall one occasion when a director pushed a particularly sensitive scene, but her mum Monica stepped in.

“My mam walked onto the set. She said, ‘You’re not doing that again unless we map out exactly when this is going to stop.’ I was very lucky that I had a proper protector with me,” Saoirse confessed.

Alongside her Vogue cover, Saoirse took part in the web series 73 questions from Vogue.
