Ray D’Arcy opens up about criticism

Ray D’Arcy has opened up about criticism and the advice he has been given about his show.

The presenter left Today FM two years ago and joined RTE with a new radio and TV show.

While his radio show has been well received, the Kildare native’s TV spot has come under fire.

“A number of people said two years to me,” he said about the the time it takes to become comfortable again.

Despite the critics, Ray admitted that while they’re not settled they are happier with how the show has gone.

“And it’s two years exactly since we started on the radio,” he told the Irish Daily Mail.

“I wouldn’t say we are completely settled, but I feel a lot better than I did this time last year.

“Looking back on it, it was a bit foolhardy – some people might say stupid – to do two start-ups in one year.

“People just assume that because you have been on the radio for 14 years, sure you can just start up again, that it’s not a start-up, it’s a continuation.”

Missing her: The presenter admitted he misses his wife in work | VIPIRELAND.COM

Ray’s wife, Jenny Kelly, worked with the RTE star as a producer on his Today FM show and also worked on his RTE show, but has since left to take care of their two children.

“Even today, something happened on the show unexpectedly and I just said to her, I miss you all the time in work, but today I particularly missed you.

“But it is what it is. We’re lucky that we’re in a position where one of us can stay at home,” he added.

Watch The Ray D’Arcy Show on RTE 1 this Saturday night from 9.30pm.
