Marissa’s Masterclass generated €10,000 for Vincent Lyons, a 6-year-old boy suffering from Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.

Last Sunday, Cocoa Brown founder and CEO Marissa Carter held a charity masterclass in aid of 6-year-old Vincent Lyons, a dinosaur-loving 6-year-old bravely battling Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.

Beauty-lovers gathered at Dunboyne Castle Hotel for a fun-filled afternoon chock full with prosecco, afternoon tea, spot prizes and jam-packed goodie bags sponsored by some of Ireland’s most-loved beauty brands, including Cara Pharmacy, Spotlight Whitening and LA Girl.

Beauty expert Mark Rodgers from Flormar and skincare guru Karen Dempsey from Declaré Ireland donated their time and shared their expertise onstage alongside Marissa.

The day out generated much-needed funds for Vincent Lyons, a 6-year-old boy who has been diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD).

Boys with DMD, like Vincent, do not make the dystrophin protein in their muscles. Due to this missing protein, muscle weakness increases over time. Eventually, complications occur in the heart and lungs.

Unfortunately, there is no cure for DMD. At present, there are no treatments available in Europe for Vincent’s specific type of DMD as he is missing exons 45-50.

In late 2017, Vincent’s family received the news that a drug that will benefit Vincent is available to ship to Ireland and Temple Street Children’s Hospital has agreed to administer it. The drug will potentially lessen the severe muscle weakness.

It is vital Vincent receives the drug while he is still walking, to achieve maximum effect. However, the cost of the medication is currently €441,000 plus shipping costs.

The medication can only be shipped every 13 weeks. There is no financial assistance for this and the family has to raise all the costs.

Vincent is a very caring, funny, intelligent little boy, and he lives in Dublin 15 with his parents, Vivien and Alan, two sisters and dog, Bella.

He has a huge passion for dinosaurs and loves going fishing with his dad. His dream in life is to become an archaeologist. We really want this dream to become a reality for Vincent.
