Peter O’Mahony has finally shared a major update on his future with the IRFU.
In recent months, there was speculation the Ireland captain may call time on his career as a professional rugby player.
But on Friday, the 34-year-old confirmed that he had signed a one-year contract with Munster and the IRFU “after plenty of thought”.
In a post shared on Instagram today, the Cork native wrote: “After plenty of thought I’m delighted to have the opportunity to sign on for 1 more year with Munster and the IRFU.
“It’s been a decision I’ve had to make with my coaches and more importantly my family and I feel it’s the right thing for me to do. I feel there’s more left in me to give.
“It’s not everyday a young man who grows following 2 teams, where he was brought up and shaped by, gets the chance to play for both as long as I have and to be given the opportunity to play for another year isn’t an opportunity I could turn down,” he continued.
“All I have ever tried to do is my best for my province and country and that’s what I’ll continue to do over the remainder of this season and next.”

“Who knows what lies ahead, but I’ve had nothing but great years and I will endeavour to make this last chapter of my playing career the best of all,” Peter added.
Peter’s glamourous wife Jessica has since re-posted his announcement on Instagram, alongside a witty caption.
Referring to previous rumours he was headed to a club in France, she joked: “Ireland beats the South of France anyway 😂😂,” before adding, “So pleased for Pete.”
The couple, who share three kids, hosted an epic party for the Irish rugby team to celebrate their Six Nations win last month.
The Ireland captain and his other half invited the entire team down to their home in Cork for a knees-up – which “escalated fast”.
In videos shared by Jessica on social media, the rugby players were filmed dancing in the couple’s kitchen, with Riff Shop providing the tunes.
Jessica captioned one video: “The get together escalated fast 😂.”
The mother-of-three also posted an iconic clip of her and Peter dancing on their kitchen counter, while his teammates cheered them on.
