Paul Mescal and Kerry Condon invited to join the Academy

Paul Mescal and Kerry Condon have been invited to join the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

An Cailín Ciúin director Colm Bairéad is also amongst invitees.

On Wednesday, it was announced that the Academy had extended membership invitations to 298 people who had “distinguished themselves by their contributions to motion pictures”.

Paul, who hails from Maynooth, has been making waves in Hollywood.

He was nominated for Best Actor at the 2023 Oscars for his role in Aftersun.

He also won a BAFTA Award and an Olivier Award for his performance.

Meanwhile, Kerry was nominated for Best Supporting Actress at the 2023 Oscars for her role in The Banshees of Inisherin.

The Tipperary native has also had highly successful roles in a few of the Avengers films, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri and Better Call Saul.

Among the roles bestowed upon Academy members is voting in the Oscars.

Other notable invitees include Taylor Swift for her work on Where The Crawdads Sing and Cats.

The Weeknd, whose real name is Abel Tesfaye, was also invited for his work on Avatar: Way Of Water and Fifty Shades of Grey.

Austin Butler, who was nominated for Best Actor at the 2023 Oscars, was invited for his role as Elvis in the 2022 film.
