Paul Mescal and Daisy Edgar-Jones tipped to reunite for Normal People movie after teasing ‘big news’

Paul Mescal and Daisy Edgar-Jones have been tipped to reunite for a Normal People movie, after teasing fans about some big news they have to share.

The 26-year-old British actress and 28-year-old Irish actor sent fans into a frenzy earlier this week by sharing a selfie on Daisy’s Instagram Story.

In the post, the pair teased, “We’ve got some news to share!!” before adding, “Watch this space.”

Element Pictures, the Irish production company behind the hit series, also shared the photo.

Ladbrokes has since sparked speculation a Normal People movie will hit the big screen in 2025, which the odds now at 1/2.

Such is the excitement around the potential release, odds are currently at 2/1 that it will be the biggest box office hit of 2025 with an Oscar win coming in at 5/1.

Nicola McGeady of Ladbrokes said: “Excitement among fans of the hit TV Show Normal People is reaching fever pitch following clues of a potential reunion by the principal stars of the series.”

“Punters are already speculating on the success of the potential movie believing it could have what it takes to go all the way to Oscar glory. Who knows we could have another Irish Oscar hit in the making.”

Normal People, which aired across Hulu, BBC and RTÉ in 2020, is based on the best-selling 2018 novel by Sally Rooney.

The popular series, which received worldwide acclaim, starred Daisy as Marianne, and Paul as Connell.

It followed two young people navigating adulthood in contemporary Ireland, and their complicated relationship from the end of their school days in Sligo – to their undergraduate years at Trinity College.

The series was directed by the Oscar-nominated film-maker Lenny Abrahamson and English director Hettie Macdonald, and was filmed in Dublin, Sligo, Sweden and Italy.

During a previous interview with Wonderland magazine, Paul said he’d love to play Connell again.

“Oh, there’s no question that character to me is still alive and breathing and very much has a lot of life left to live, and has a relationship with Marianne that is maybe unfinished,” Paul confessed.

“I I do feel like the series that has finished is its own thing, and I’m totally comfortable with that.”

“It’s not on the cards at the moment, but if I got the opportunity to play him again, amazing,” he added.

Paul also addressed some people’s disappointment over the show’s heartbreaking ending. (Warning: Spoilers Ahead!)

At the end of the 12-part series, Connell and Marianne part ways before he moves to New York.

Defending the show’s ending, Paul said: “I thought it was just the most beautifully sad ending to a story.”

“Totally, the romantic in me is like why doesn’t she just tell him to stay? Or why doesn’t she come over to New York? But it doesn’t make sense in the reality of those two character’s lives.”

“I think ultimately if they did decide to stay together at that moment, it would be way more disappointing than the reality of the ending.”

Meanwhile, the show’s producers haven’t ruled out the possibility – as they previously said it could happen in the future.

Element Pictures boss Ed Guiney told The Hollywood Reporter: “We’re not thinking about a second season at the moment. Maybe in the future at some point in time.”
