TV comic Oliver Callan doesn’t want the same-sex marriage referendum to take place next year.
The gay RTE star fears that the unpopularity of the Government could sway the outcome and lead to a no vote.
He said: “Something I’d be afraid of is an unpopular government bringing a referendum forward.
“People are still struggling out there. The mood might just be to give two fingers to the Government.

“We saw it before with the Seanad referendum — it appeared to have huge support but then the result on the day came back.
“At the moment we’re hearing that 80 per cent are in favour of same-sex marriage but people might not be moved enough to vote.”
And Oliver, who has been in a relationship for three years, insists same-sex marriage is important to all gay people
He told the Irish Sun: “It’s about society saying it’s okay to be gay. It takes that aspect of bullying out of the vocabulary.”
“People are called gay or f*g as a term of insult – even at people who aren’t gay.”
