Muireann O’Connell admits she doesn’t feel ‘any pressure’ to have a wedding

Muireann O’Connell has admitted she doesn’t feel “any pressure” to have a wedding.

The Ireland AM presenter announced her engagement to her partner, who she refers to as her “housemate”, in November 2021.

While it’s been over two years since she got engaged, the TV host isn’t in any rush to walk down the aisle.

Speaking to the Sunday Independent, Muireann confessed her wedding will be a bittersweet occasion following the death of her father.

Her dad Brendan sadly passed away in March 2021, following a battle with cancer.

“Since Dad died, I think it would be weird for Mum to do my wedding without him,” she said.

“She’d love the day, but she’d like it to be 20 people in the registry office. But I don’t feel any pressure to have a wedding.”

During an interview with the Sunday World in November, Muireann admitted: “I’ve never thought about getting married so I don’t waste any energy on it.”

“I haven’t thought about anything to do with it.”

“I hope to someday be able to buy a house,” Muireann continued. “That’s something I would care about in life, so the wedding isn’t something I lose any sleep over.”

“It’s only something that’s brought up by his parents and my mam and friends. They all just want a bit of a party!”

“It’s different when one parent is gone,” she confessed.

“My mother would have liked him to have been there and there might have been pressure to have it done before dad was gone, but now it’s grand.”

“It’s a very different thing for me now, that all four won’t be there.”
