Meet the Irish winner of the BBC’s Gladiators reboot

Marie-Louise Nicholson became the first champion of BBC’s Gladiators reboot on Saturday night.

The Dublin fitness trainer, 28, powered through The Eliminator to beat Bronte Jones in the final of the game show.

The BBC relaunched the 90s classic and brought it back to our screens earlier this year.

Marie-Louise had gained a two-second head start on her opponent, thanks to her success in an earlier event The Edge.

She dominated the final obstacle course to power home ahead of her competitor, making the extra seconds count.

The crossfit trainer took to Instagram ahead of the final and said: “The most bruised I’ve been in my life, but I wouldn’t have had it any other way. Bring on the finalé!! 🪱 Who’s tuning in this Saturday at BBC1 5:50pm? I will be wearing Red 🌶️✨”

After winning the last challenge, she graciously said in her victory speech: “Bronte was on my tail the whole time – what a competitor to go up against. She was so close at the end there. It was a photo finish. I think we’re both winners in my eyes.”

Marie-Louise is based in London, and often shares her workout routines on her Instagram page.

The personal trainer even shared a behind-the-scenes look at the show, showcasing some memories as it came to an end.

The rebooted version of Gladiators is presented by Bradley Walsh and his son Barney.

The BBC announced this week that a second series will be made this summer.
