Laura Whitmore’s Strictly dancer partner keeps telling her to ‘close her legs’

Laura Whitmore has revealed that her Strictly Come Dancing dance partner keeps telling her to ‘close her legs’.

The Bray native will make her dancing debut on the popular BBC show this evening with Giovanni Pernice – and Laura has revealed all about their rehearsal antics.

“He was telling me to close my legs. He keeps saying ‘Laura, your patatina is showing,'” she said.

The 31-year-old revealed that her Italian partner isn’t entirely fluent in English, which causes her “Irishism” to develop quite a language barrier.

Speaking about being told that her “patatina is showing”, Laura said, “I looked it up, it means ‘little potato.'”

“Because in the Cha Cha Cha you’ve got to keep your legs closed.

“You can’t keep your legs open. I’ve random words being shouted at me,” she said on The Eoghan McDermott Show on 2FM.

“I’m learning from an Italian man who has only learned English in the last year, so that’s quite interesting.

“I say British people don’t understand me because I have my Irishism.

“I’ll say ‘C’mere to me and I’ll tell ya something,’ and he’ll be like ‘What, why you talk like that, Laura what you talk about?'”

The MTV star also admitted that she feels sick ahead of tonight’s show.

“I feel physically ill. I don’t think I’ve ever been this nervous and I’m not sure if I like this feeling.

“I’m so out of my depth with this. We spent the last two and a half weeks in a dance studio going over routines and basic steps.

“You’re in this little bubble, you and your dance partner and you talk to the other contestants and that’s it.”

Laura also revealed that her stage play’s producers didn’t think much of her after her first audition.

News broke yesterday that the Bray native is set to star on stage in thriller Not Dead Enough – and will play mortuary assistant Cleo Morely.

“I first met [the producers] a year ago but my agent got an e-mail and she just forwarded it to me,” she said.

Surprised: The play’s producers were surprised by Laura’s audition | BBC

The presenter said that her agent e-mailed her the e-mail from the show’s producers saying how shocked they were after her audition.

“She said ‘I’m going to show you this e-mail because I don’t want to paraphrase it.’

“They said ‘To be honest we weren’t really thinking much of Laura beforehand because we just assumed she was just this MTV presenter.

“We’re really surprised by [her audition] but our only fear is because she’s only known as this MTV presenter that it might go against us in the theatre that we’re in.’

“I was kind of happy about that! They were saying how surprised they were at how good I was and really wanted me for the role.”
