Laura Whitmore relieved after Philippines child she sponsors found alive – a year after typhoon slammed country

Laura Whitmore is delighted after discovering the little girl she sponsors in the Philippines has been found alive and well.

The MTV star feared missing Aiel Joy had perished after a deadly typhoon struck the country.

Last year, Laura said she was “very worried” that the youngster had gone missing and couldn’t be found.

But a year later, it has emerged that the 29-year-old’s kid has been found alive and well – and isn’t one of the 6,000 who have died from the typhoon.

Fears: Laura lost contact with kid she sponsors

An insider said: “Thank God Laura’s sponsored child wasn’t one of the fatalities, which is a big relief to everybody.

“There were thousands of children killed and forced to flee their homes because of Typhoon Haiyan but Aiel Joy was found safe and well.”

The Bray host used to exchange regular letters and photos with Aiel as their friendship developed up until she went missing.

She is one of around 200 children in the Asian country sponsored by Plan Ireland.

Pals told the Star that Laura – who is a Plan Ireland ambassador — was over the moon at the news she has been found.

Last year, when it emerged she was missing, Laura said she was extremely frightened.

She added: “I’m very worried about my little girl, Aiel Joy, who I sponsor there, as we have had no contact with her or with her school.”
