Ireland AM hosts world’s first AI-inspired show

Ireland AM hosted the world’s first-ever AI-inspired show on Thursday morning.

The AI-produced show aired from 7 am to 10 am and saw hosts, Tommy Bowe, Muireann O’Connell, Deric Hartigan and Alan Hughes unbeknownst to the show’s upcoming guests.

The show was shaped entirely by input from Chat GPT and Google Bard, two of the world’s most popular AI content generation platforms, to create an innovative blend of entertainment and information.

Anthony Nilan, Head of Content Strategy at Virgin Media Television, said of the innovative show: “Ireland AM has been a trusted and valuable information source for Irish viewers for nearly 25 years.”

“This AI curated show is about using current accessible versions of artificial intelligence tools and giving our viewers, presenters, and production team a taste of what it is capable of and how it could potentially assist us.”

“It also ensures that Ireland AM is best placed to ask the important questions and give real insight into the emerging technology as it develops further.”

During the broadcast, the presenters read from scripts written by AI technology.

The AI-producer revealed that the show was to feature a special mystery guest, whose identity was not confirmed to the morning broadcast’s hosts.

Spencer Matthews was then revealed as the special guest.

Muireann and Tommy announced the concept of the show on Tuesday and said: “We’ve got an exciting show coming up this Thursday.”

Muireann then revealed: “It is completely, utterly, directed, researched and produced by artificial intelligence.”

“Yes, everything that’s going to happen on the show, is decided by the robot.”

Tommy admitted that “they were going to take it to a whole new level.”

One unique segment crafted by ChatGPT saw viewers brought into the studio to chat with Alan about the biggest news stories from the morning papers.

Viewers of the show have now taken to Ireland AM’s comment under their latest Instagram posts from the show and commented on the unique format.

One penned: “It’s going smoothly so far.”

Another said: “Loving the show today❤️”

While a third wrote: “Brilliant show today, very funny in the kitchen. @spencermatthews was as cool as a cucumber. Well done to all 👏”
