EXCLUSIVE! Love/Hate star Susan Loughnane reveals she refused a lucrative book deal

Actress Susan Loughnane has started writing her second book – after releasing her debut novel The Art of Scandal.

Susan is best known for playing Debbie in Love/Hate but is now a fully fledged author and is ready for book number two.

Speaking to Goss.ie Susan said her next book could take “years” but she thinks it will be well worth the wait.

“I have one in my head. I’ve written a page, but I wrote the page like a year and a half ago,” she said.

“The plan is to get back into it. I’ve been brainstorming about where it might go because I want it to have a good story. I keep saying this second one will be like my Harry Potter.

“It might take me years, it could take me like seven years so that’s why I didn’t wanna sign a book deal cause then it would have to come out next year.

“It’s kind of mythical,”she explained.

Despite being already on to book number two Susan, 27,  revealed she doesn’t want to sign any book deals, because she doesn’t want to deal with the pressure.

“I didn’t want to sign a three book deal. I was supposed to, I was going to sign a three book deal and I said no.

“Because I don’t really like having limitations that way cos I feel like you’re just gonna end up putting pressure on yourself.

“Not necessarily writing for the love of writing but writing because you’ve already been paid to write,” she explained.

“I’d rather write because its a story I really want to tell. I do have a story but I don’t want to force it out. I just want to write it because I want to write it.

“Whereas if you get a book deal, you get paid before you do the thing and that’s kind of scary. You’re being paid for something that you haven’t even done yet and that’s scary – what if its not good?

“I don’t want to put a book out there that;’s not good just because I have to, because then you’re forcing people to read something that’s not necessarily your proudest work and I don’t wanna do that.

“So I don’t generally follow much of a structure, I like to do something that feels natural,” she said.
