Here’s who’s tipped to replace Eoghan McDermott on 2FM Breakfast

Doireann Garrihy is returning to RTÉ 2fm with a brand new breakfast show on May 31st.

The radio presenter took a break from the station last month, following the sudden departure of her co-host Eoghan McDermott.

Since then, a host of well-known faces have been tipped to replace Eoghan on the show.

Over the past few weeks, RTÉ 2fm listeners have been calling for Carl Mullan to be Doireann’s new co-host.

But at the end of April, her old Spin 1038 colleague Marty Guilfoyle became the favourite to replace Eoghan – after his odds tumbled into 13/8.

Brian Dowling has also been linked to the role, after the Irish Mail on Sunday reported that he was in running.

Other stars tipped for the role include Lottie Ryan, James Kavanagh, Greg O’Shea, James Patrice, Aidan Power and Maura Higgins.

RTÉ confirmed Eoghan’s departure from 2fm on March 8, two weeks after he suddenly disappeared from the Breakfast show.

In a statement, the broadcaster said: “RTÉ confirms that Eoghan McDermott will not be returning to RTÉ 2FM. His contract is due to expire shortly.”

“RTÉ is developing a new direction for the 2FM Breakfast Show which will be revealed in the coming weeks. Doireann Garrihy will remain with the show.”
