Graham went on to explain that it was the way Gay controlled situations on The Late Late Show that made him respect his work.

“When I watch archive clips you the show looks old fashioned but he was just so fluid. He could go from a really funny bit to serious,” he told American drag queen and presenter Ru Paul on his podcast show.

“This was a light entertainment chat show. He was able to steer it with confidence.

“He said this is my show and anything can happen in the world because I’m in control.”

Gay has just recently revealed that he has been diagnosed with cancer.

The host shocked listeners on his Lyric FM show on Sunday, telling them he wouldn’t be doing his show next week, as he needed to go to hospital.

“Have to go to hospital this week. They think they may have discovered a bit of cancer in the prostate and they think it may have moved up into my back.”
